Vulnerability check and eScan

Postby Anish » Sun Sep 18, 2011 12:55 pm

hi,

why eScan doesn't have vulnerability checking facility in eSCan av & ISS full product range.

don't you think it is important?

would like to know about possibility of introducing vulnerability checking and fixing utility in eScan v.12

regards

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us at eScan.

With reference to your query, regarding fixing of the system vulnerabilities, eScan does not have a GUi based vulnerability scanner but it does take care of the vulnerabilities with respect to the security of a system. When a client installs an eScan product SOHO/SMB/Corporate , it will check for important Microsoft Operating system patches that are missing from the system and then download and install the same on the client system. This process is carried out in the background and does not require any user intervention on a computer connected to the internet.Additionally, the download of Microsoft Security patches can directly be started using the Tool option in the eScan Protection Center.
Please note that eScan will only download those security patches which are important from a security point of view respective to the operating system on the client machine.
Also, there is a "Restore Windows Default Settings" option under the Tools section in the eScan Protection Center which reverts back some basic registry values in case it has been changed from its default value by some malware.
Additionally , with the eScan version 11 SMB/Corporate , a system admin can modify and set criteria's of the machines in his netwrok wherein he can select from a set of different criteria and define the parameters which will enable him to know the most vulnerable systems in his network.
Some of the criteria for the computer status are:-
>Virus signature database outdated
>Many viruses detected
>No eScan antivirus installed
>Not scanned for a long time. etc.

Hope this will resolve your query.
With Regards,
Vineeth K.

Vulnerability check and eScan

Postby Anish » Thu Sep 29, 2011 10:06 am

hello mr.vineet,

thanks for your detailed reply,

will this cover browser vulnerabilities also ?, for example - suppose a client uses different browsers for internet connections and we cannot expect every user to be an expert hence the browser vulnerabilities in terms of old browser versions , bugs of even a new version browser can affect a system security.

here i hope the need of a vulnerability scanner / fixer for applications arises to scan the installed applications of a client machine which are prone to threats by way of internet connectivity for updates etc , like adobe flash etc and which should fix the same also or warn the user of a potential danger to his system because of the application and the same will help the user to decide further actions.

need your opinion about the same

best regards

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting us at eScan.

Please note that as mentioned above, only security patches for the operating system are downloaded which are respective to every operating system.
Microsoft patches for other softwares are not downloaded. In case of browsers, the eScan malware url scanner will block such drive by download website url from its own database in addition to the virus signature database .
Your query about a vulnerability scanner will be forwarded to the respective department and the same would be added as per the feasibilty of the software.
